Does anyone know if the male portion of a Dive Rite Elbow joint will screw into the female portion of the Halcyon Wing's elbow joint? Are they compatible? Or would I need to use the female portion of the Dive Rite elbow joint?

Thanks.

I was helping a friend patch his poineer wing (thru the rear dump valve) a couple weeks ago and the attachments look to be the same as my DR travel wing, except it looked like inner two pieces that sandwich the bladder are glued and permenantly installed. They also looked to be of a different material (higher quality I thought). While I think the answer to your question is yes, they are compatible, I'm not clear exactly which piece you are talking about. Inside the bladder is a flange with male threads extending to the outside. The next piece has smaller diameter female threads that engage the first piece (seemed to be glued on the H) and larger diameter male threads that will engage the elbow retainer (or a pull dump valve - both have same threading). The elbow has an multisided interface that fits into the middle piece and is held by a retainer with female threads. (I'm doing this from memory so I hope I got it right.) If you can wait till tomorrow, I'll verify that I can mate my diverite elbow to his Halcyon wing.

I guess we may have to give his wing a few drinks and hold it down. Hopefully, we won't see any Halcyrite bi-products.

Thank you, AWAP...I'm looking to replace the short stock hose on my Eclipse with a longer hose--I've found the DR hoses fine--for use with an Air2 (this issue was discussed in another thread)--I only use this arrangement when diving locally with my pony, off of which I have a redundant 2nd stage (so off the primary tank I have my primary 2nd stage and the Air2). But when I travel--and don't use a pony--I would like to be able to switch back to the short stock Halcyon hose and power inflator (I then reinstall a backup 2nd stage to my 1st stage). It seems to me the easiest way to switch hoses on the Halcyon would be to have each hose attached to an elbow joint, which can be screwed on and off the female threaded piece that protrudes from the bladder. I don't know where to get a Halcyon elbow (and my LDS has stated to me that they hate to order anything from Halcyon), and DR Express is fast and easy, so I was hoping to be able to use the DR. Any other suggestions would be welcomed...thanks again, mahjong

You may want the pull-dump version for use with the Air2. I'm 99% sure they are fully compatible but will have confirmation tomorrow.

Yes, AWAP, I'm aware of the need to be able to dump air if and when using the Air2, so I will consider the pull-dump version. Thanks again...looking forward to hearing if the DR elbow/dumps are compatible...mahjong

I've got both sitting out in my truck... give me a few minutes and I'll pull the DR and see if it fits the Halcyon... brb ;)

Yup - they are interchangeable...

Aloha, Tim

Many thanks, Kidspot!! That makes things easier...Now all I need to do is bracket my purist impulse and pick up a DR elbow/pull dump and hose and I'm in business...Thanks again! mahjong

Once again I noticed the one piece H wing connector of seemingly higher quality as compared to the 2 piece design on the DR wing. Took me a moment to realize that the DR design is necessary to accomodate the replacable bladder. The elbow components appear to be exactly the same.

BTW, I have a setup for my DR wing just like you are talking about (pull dump with air2). Since I converted to a conventional octo, I've never seen the need to use it. For solo shallow river dives where I thought I would use it, I just dive a reg with no octo. IMHO, it's just not worth the trouble to do the conversion.

Well, most of my dives are solo, though occasionally I pair with someone on a boat. If I did without the Air2 when diving my pony, I would have no octo coming off the main tank. I'm not excited about doing the conversion, but we'll see how it works out. Perhaps the one piece H connector you speak of is specific to the Pioneer, which is bladderless. I have the Eclipse, which has a bladder--I'll take a careful look at the connector later. Thanks again, mahjong

Almost all inflatables, wings lift bags, etc. are produced using RF welding. Only certain materials can be RF welded. Urethane is a "dipole" material that RF welds well. The one piece fitting you've noticed on a single bladder wing is made of urethane, so that it can be welded to the inner laminated layer of urethane on the inside of single bladder wings. These weldable fittings eliminate 3 pieces, the "T nut" the "washer", and the "Double Nut". They aren't used on double bladder wings because you need the "double nut" to capture the sewn outer shell in the fitting stack. It's not really a matter of quality, it's a matter of reduced parts count and assembly costs.

It is quite possible to use the conventional 3 piece fitting assembly with single bladder wings, just costs a bit more.
