I'm a Fish!
I know that vintage equipment divers are far and few between and not many people understand our motivations. I am brand new at this myself BTW, but I have been severely bitten by the bug.
I seems that up here in Northern California we are VERY far and few between.
I want to do a roll call to see who is up in the SF Bay Area from lets say Monterey up to Mendocino County that might be interested in getting together for planned dives and MAG's, just double hose divers / vintage minimalist types.
I also dive regular gear with another local club but none of them have any interest in vintage gear at all, so I'm alone.

It would be nice to have somebody else around to dive DH regs with so we could practice DH skills etc. You know, for the comeraderie aspects.

And, I'm not just talking about a few people using double hoses and the rest of the crew using modern gear and just tagging along to watch a few people using DH's. I'm looking for people who are serious and either dive DH's now or positively plan to in the near future and have already taken steps to make that happen.

So, who's out there?
Let's hear from you.

Duckbill here in Yuba City, as you know, and double hose all the way.

I know of another diver in Chico who dives double hoses also, but rarely visits here.

Every once in a while someone from Nor-Cal pops up saying, "I've been diving double hose regulators since I started diving in 196* and am surprised to find others who are diving them still these days," so I know there are more around than we are aware, and who may not have "found" us yet.

Well, so far it's just the two of us. Let's see who else shows up.
That diver you know up in Chico, that wouldn't be Infidelxx would it?
He's really hard to contact.
There's also Douchbag in the central valley somewhere but I've never talked to him.

How long does it take you to get to Monterey?
I'm up in Santa Rosa and it takes me around three hours.

Santa Rosa...

The late great UW artist John Steel lived and passed away there.

Ron Prevelka who was marketing manager for JBL & later DACOR also lives in the area.. He is vintage but I think now mostly dives for Abalone and spearfishes..

I live in Pismo Beach.. Too far south,

I know Ron Pavelka. It's funny though, when I first met him I wasn't a diver. He was a customer at a body shop I worked at.
Since then I have not run into him again.

I'm not quite ready to come out as a DH diver. I've been moving over to a BP/W and I do have a Freedom Plate I got to use with the DH but haven't made it out of the pool with it yet. I have a lot of steps I'm working through on my way.

Just getting J valves serviced ment getting a tech interested enough to actually try working on them and I'll probably be able to do the work myself soon. Now I have two tanks with "working" J valves and a few more valves to fix. Trying to get parts is amusing, to say the least. The '70's J valve doubles manifold is another project.

Anyway ZKY when I'm ready I'll call and Windsor is almost on your way to ocean. It will be this summer.

Hey Bob, how ya been?

Refresh My memory, I thought I saw a Snark on your bench when I dropped off the plate to you, right?
Those J valves should be no big deal. If you need a few J rods let me know. I have an extra one and I can make more.
We'll have to go hit Stillwater soon and do a simple back pack dive.

see ya

Fish&beer here in Roseville!
Started my diving in 1969 and used a DH then. Somehow lost my way and used single hose since. Well I found myself again and recently bought a RAM from VDH and a DA to make into a phoenix project in the future. I also only dive w/ 72's. I'm never looking back, DOUBLE HOSE all the way! Count me aboard!

COOL Coool cooool,

Let's plan something for the North Coast sometime. Great camping up in Sonoma and Mendocino counties to break up the trip and make a weekend out of it. Great diving too, wild and pristine, very few people, gorgeous scenery.
Maybe with enough notice I can scrape some of you others out of the remote corners of the state.

Internet travel is great, instant access to anywhere in the world. Actual travel, easier said than done.

Hey Nor Cal DH divers-
I'm off on vacation time next week and am looking for a DH/vintage only dive buddy to dive with. I'm free anytime 7/22 - 7/25/10. I was thinking of diving Salt point or Sonoma Co. So if anyone is free then let me know. itchin to blow bubbles w/ my RAM. Non DH divers need not apply.
