Did you ask the store manager if they had a course director who was willing to work with the shop? At least with NAUI course directors can work with a few different shops without actually being on thier staff.

So are you saying that you actually did the course with them only to find out that no one was qualified to give the course?

The shop I frequent does not have a course director on staff and in the shop on a daily basis. They do have a couple that come to the shop and do the work for them on an as needed basis. I guess they're more like independent contractors. If the shop is reputable, I would believe that they could offer you the IDC.

If they're offering the service and you paid them for it then they should/will hire a freelance CD. There are lots of them around.

It sounds like the shop enticed him with being able to reach IDC eventually and then he found it they don't have anyone to teach it. It could be that the shop is between instructors right now or they simply hyped up the distance that their training could take a new diver.

To or through? Nothing wrong with a shop promising to take you to where you are prepared to attend an IDC, although they should probably clearly state that you'd have to look elsewhere for an IDC to attend if they don't hold one on occasion. Any good instructor can prepare you for an IDC, it does take a course director to run one though and in many areas course directors hold IDCs for shops independantly.

I did an intership with the dive shop paying up to divemaster. Then studing for the NAUI ITC on nights and weekends. The current owner has a course director certificate on the wall, but of course expired. The reply is the paperwork is coming from NAUI...next month. This excuse has been used for 5 months.

Because the check is in the mail to speak of...why was the current owner letting me teach open water classes pool/qualification dives alone. This was "on the job training right."
