...without watching this video and telling me what you think. I need some new diver opinions about what you're seeing here, if you don't mind.

I should admit to you that I didn't shoot this video expecting to use this stuff in an instructional format. Fact is the underwater conditions that day were BAD so I got carried away with the surface stuff. Except for one shot, everything is as it happened. The tag line for the video is:

A short video on the basics of small boat diving, east coast style. Large dive boats have lots of room and divers. Small boats don't. This video covers small boat basics including safety rules of boat operation, storing and setting up dive gear, kitting up, entering the water, tying in the anchor, using a wreck reel and navigating on a wreck. Gas planning and the hazards of wreck diving are also discussed.

ENJOY!

What lake was that?

:shocked2:

Nice video.

Very friendly and instructional.

It made me a bit drowsy as I prepare for bed.

Can you believe "Lake Atlantic" almost 60 miles due east of the Virginia/North Carolina line? Stayed like that all day, too. Next day was 3 to 5 NE at 20...:D

OK, OK, sharks circling the guy tying in next time? Back to back deco with a Great White hanging around? HEY, wait a minute... you're not a new diver!

:D

One question I had upon viewing the video...

As the diver exits the water, it's not clear if he's got his fins on or off.

I've found in my experience, that with very little exception, dive boats in tropical destinations say "fins off" when boarding the ladder, and the ladder is enclosed, which does make it difficult to climb up with fins on...and NorthEast Atlantic cold water dive boats say "leave fins on" and they tend towards open rung ladders which facilitate a fins on water exit.

Yeah, that's what I assumed.

I think you risk setting inappropriate expectations among folks who've not been out on a boat - much less with scuba gear, etc, etc.

Seriously.

If you can actually shoot topside video... it's not really representative conditions.

:eyebrow:

Two things stuck out to me
In the very beginning you never want to hop into the boat, wet deck and its a sure head splitter.
Second, when the diving is getting back on the boat the narrator says to keep your reg in your mouth, but the diver does not appear to follow that advice.

Damn you're good.

That was quite a catch there.

Fins ON ladder, but you can't see it. An earlier shot has it in the "up" position.

That's certainly true, but I probably couldn't have done this video on a Parker without these conditions. Keep in mind, I didn't plan to shoot this video, it just kind of worked out that way...

FYI, here's the BIG boy boat on a better day only 20 miles away...
