Re: Don Pinder -- rest in peace
I never met Don Pinder, but his youngest and more celebrated brother Art told me much about him and his oldest
brother Fred, including that he so much looked up to both of them. After the
three brothers won the 1954 Nationals Championship, Art said "It's a shame that
my brothers dropped out of the sport, but all the spearfishing club politics
just turned them off. They were the best divers in the world! I learned
everything from them and my dad!"
Don Pinder was the 1954 Nationals Independent Champion.

Also here's a post from my dear friend Sheri Daye about Don Pinder's outstanding World Spearfishing Record.
Please keep in mind this was 41 years before Jewfish became a protected species.
"Dons Jewfish became a world record at 804 pounds and is likely to stand, as
Jewfish (now called Goliath Grouper) became a protected species in the United
States in 1990. Dons fish is also listed in the Guinness Book of World Records
as the largest fish of any species ever taken by a spearfisherman. Don donated
the 804-pound fish to Variety Childrens Hospital, and they used it to make fish
chowder.

My deep respect to you Don Pinder.
