I am planning a trip next month to Bonaire. Anyone heard of any dolphin or pilot whale sightings there lately?

Pods of dophins have been working their way south and then later north daily. We spent our dive yesterday listening to them offshore of us. Very nice to hear.

Would you happen to know what species of dolphin were sited? Common, bottlenose, spinner, rough tooth?

We saw a pod of dolphins pass about 100 yards off the dock at the Black Durgon (in the channel between Bonaire and Klein Bonaire) a week ago. Not sure about the species.

Actually August is the prime time to see Whale Sharks, from town northward and Manta Rays, usually off of Klein. It's not a guarantee, but the locals tell us this is the usual time of year they are spotted. I have also heard of Whale Sharks being spotted up by Karpata, etc during August. It also seems that the dolphin pods are increasing, they are being seen more often and for longer periods of time. You can usually see them between the town area and Klein Bonaire, then heading south to around Punt Verkant and Lighthouse beach, where they tend to turn more out to see, but you definitely see them.

Hey Liz,

You wouldn't happen to know what species of dolphin pods you are seeing lately?

Usually bottlenose, but we seen a few sitings of the darker version with white spots, don't know what kind.

Huh...sounds like you are seeing "Pantropical Spotted Dolphins". Are they any boats there that make a effort to see the dolphins or whale sharks? I will be at Buddy Dive Resort sometime in the last two weeks of August. It would be a great opportunity to see either one when I am there.
