Does anyone know if Olympus will repair housings that are not under warrenty?

The middle button on my PT-015 (the one that accesses the menu function) has lost its ability to spring back after being pressed. It's not a hassle as long as I remember to set the RAW function and white balance settings before putting the camera in the housing, but if it can be fixed I'd prefer that as I have to hang onto the 5050 for a while longer.

Thanks,
Mel.b

Yes, they will, but the button you are having trouble with is easily self-serviced. There's a little circlip on the inside of the button. Carefully push it aside to release the button shaft/spring. Remove, clean, lube and reinstall. It won't take more than ten minutes. If you find the oring is damaged, send me a PM.

id say dont dive with it until its sorted.
there might be a salt build up, causing friction +likely to cause the o-ring to fail

I have two Oly PT-010 housings that have hundreds of dives on each of them.

I have used pure food grade liquid silicone on all the plunger control buttons and it has worked to date.

Carefully place one drop of the liquid silicone on the exterior side of the plunger and work the silicone in by pushing the plunger several times.

As far as dismantling those plungers I have sucessfully done it on one of my housings.

I have instructions on my website. Be very careful not to lose those "C" clips that hold the plungers on. They will "fly" when you pop them off.

Gilligan: If you use a pair of needle nosed hemostats, they'll clamp onto the "C" ring, make it even easier to extract and keep the little booger from flying. And, yes, that's the voice of experience speaking! ;^)

Disclaimer: I do not take responsibility for any damage resulting from following the advise in next sections. Please regard it as utterly crap :no

I've got a PT-010. I guess it has the same buttons. It is possible to take the knob appart. After a few years of photography, I took all buttons appart for maintenance
- remove the small rubber cap from the button, on the inside of the housing
- remove the C ring
- now you can pull out the button from the outside
- carefully remove the o-ring
- clean the seat, the o-ring and the button
- replace the o-ring if necessary
- regrease the o-ring
- reassemble in reversed order
- Check water resistance of the housing WITHOUT a camera in it first

Notes from own experience:
- the small rubber caps may get easily damaged when removing
- the c-rings may get bent while removing. They can be reshaped or replaced
- do not use metal tools when removing the o-rings. You may damage the o-rings or (much worse) the seat. Use plastic or wood, be gentle.

I purchased a used PT-10 two years ago and put about forty dives on it with no problems, but on my last trip, the front port o-ring started leaking. I sent the housing into Olympus East coast service two weeks ago for repair. It was promptly returned - unrepaired - with a note stating that the housing was not purchased in the US and needed to be returned to the country of original purchase for repair. Anyone else have a problem like this? Better yet, does anyone have a good way to replace the main port o-ring?
