will be in texas next month - don't know exactly when but I would like to fly on to coz.

Any idea what city has the best/cheapest flights/packages ??

It's not really a matter of which cities or airports offer the deals - the airport has nothing to do with it - it's all dependent upon the airlines.

Continental flies direct from IAH to CZM

American flies direct from DFW to CZM

You can also check with Worry Free Vacations, Apple vacations, and Funjet vacations for charter options. I don't know what options they offer for the winter months.

Lately, most of the charters stop flying out of DFW during the fall and winter months, for some crazy reason.

American flies direct everyday to both Coz and Cancun (if your up for the bag drag).

A lot of us are keeping our fingers crossed that the scuddlebutt about Southwest possibly heading south of the border will come true...

Look at Kayak.com or Sidestep.com to compare airfare amongst different airlines.

I despise DFW.
Missed connections due to late flights. Incompetent/arrogant bit**es at the gates not to mention the maintenance problem that left us sitting in the plane for two hours.
ALL ON THE SAME DAMN FLIGHT!
Atlanta and Houston are far better.
But, I understand what you are saying and yes, you can there from DWF of course Houston works too

I flew continental from LAX to IAH, then to COZ in October. All went well, wish the price was a bit lower though. Southwest hmmmm...........to COZ............nice if it comes to pass.
IAH to me was a very well laid out airport. Plus quite a few places to eat and relax while waiting for the connection.
We will be returning to COZ again in 6 months and probably do Continental again.

Don't know about DFW being cheapest. Try connection through dallas from other texas towns.

Up here in Chicago sometimes it is much cheaper to drive to Milwaukee and leave from there with a connection in Chicago. Last year was 579 from chicago but out of Milwaukee connecting on the same chicago flight was 329!!! figure that one. Has something to do with feds giving airlines incentives to keep service in smaller airports and also gate lease prices.

PS Northwest has service from Memphis to coz in the winter. Kayak is a good start.

Where in Texas will you be? It's a big place. I presume Dallas area, but checking?

I see that you are airport challenged at home, almost 3 hours drive from Memphis, further from Nashville or St.Louis, altho all three are possible airports depending on deals. Here are some sample, round-trip, cheapest fares including taxes for January travel...

Memphis-Cancun: $301 on US Air with 5 other airlines under $335
Memphis-Cozumel: $555 on American - do the bag drag from Cancun

St.Louis-Cozumel: $296 on US Air with Delta, American, Frontier not much higher.
Forget the bag drag...! :D

Nashville-Cancun: $389, $451 to Coz - forget that!

As mentioned, American flies non-stop from DFW and Continental non-stop from Houston, but that's not necessarily the cheapest. Worth checking the others anyway.
DFW-Cancun: $274 on Continental,
DFW-Cozumel: $325 on American - yeah worth the extra to skip the bus & ferry bag drag.

The point I was trying to illustrate is that just being in Texas does not guarantee a cheaper flight to Cozumel. I don't know the details of your plans of course, but the way I pack, I'd hate to take all my gear with me on a family or business trip to make a side trip to Coz just to save $22 on a ticket to Cancun, or pay more to fly to Cozumel. If you rent all your gear at the destination, then your snorkel gear is not that much to tote along I suppose. So often, others all over the US and Canada can fly there cheaper than I can tho. From my part of Texas tho, I'm forgoing Coz for Roatan this winter as the fares are almost the same, for me cheaper to Roatan when I factor in luggage charges I'd pay if I took the cheaper airline vs free luggage on a higher airline.

Now - you mentioned packages?! :eyebrow: That's a different discussion, especially if you'll be there for a full week and can use the Orbitz $200 discount. So when you have more info to give, we can give more help.

Have a great trip. :pilot:

Hey Don, does continental still give you a free checked bag to Coz? I read the website that way, but I found somewhere else it looked like no. I tried look at 'buying' the checked bag to see if it would should the one free, but it wont let me until 24 hrs before.

I flew last month LAX-IAH-COZ on Continental; first bag free up to 50#'s.

Caution: Last year I flew Delta out of Atlanta; the problem many of us had was Delta at that time, and maybe still now, flies an RJ to COZ. It's a small plane, and can't hold all the baggage - not sure if space or weight restriction. It took 2 days for most everyone's baggage to finally arrive. I always carry on all the important stuff, like regs, prescription mask, computer, swim trunk, and a clean pair of tidy whiteys - I can always rent anything else needed. If this is a concern, book on a "full size" airplane.
