I have recently been given my wifes cast-off coolpix 5200 with CP2 UW housing. She was not happy with the 5200 picture quality and has invested in a canon 800is and housing that has an underwater setting and much larger LCD display.

Having recently read about other cameras, I am wondering if I need to use a filter with the 5200? If so, how do I go about obtaining and fitting such as device. We are planning to dive the poor knights next month and also do the humpback whales in Tonga later in the year. I am guessing my dives will be in the 20-25metre range and would like to be able to take some great shots, not just a greenish mess.

Your advice would be most welcome.

You need the Red filter 48 to fit a CP5 housing which is the housing made for the 5200. If it's not a CP5, please measure the outside diameter of the port and I can probably find one that fits. They are all $47.50 unless you need an adapter. It is a special order and may take a few days to get.

Red filters really only help in shallow water ~5-7M depending on how bright it is. Below that you'll need a strobe.

Feel free to contact me directly for help.
