Doc’s Proplugs – A Review

Like so many divers, I have been plagued in my lifetime with ear problems associated with water. As a child I had tubes put into my ears multiple times, and still had problems as I grew older. I competitively swam for over 10 years and lifeguarded for 10 years, and I still had problems. When I started scuba diving, I ended up getting ear infections often until I found a really inexpensive way to alleviate my ear problems with the water. I was introduced to Doc’s Proplugs by a friend of mine who owned a dive shop and boy did it change my enjoyment of diving.
There are so many great things to say about Doc’s Proplugs. These simple inexpensive ear plugs are great for all divers and swimmers. It helps alleviate excess water that can enter your ears. The tiny little hole in the middle of the plug makes clearing your ears easier at any depth. I personally swear by them. Since using them I have not had an ear infection, and I do not get that wishy washy feeling you sometimes get after diving from having water in your ears. I also do not have drainage issues with my ears when I wear them. I also volunteer for a great not for profit organization SUDS (soldiers undertaking disabled scuba) which we help men and women mostly from Iraq and Afghanistan get opened water certified in scuba diving. Since most of our men and women have had head injuries the Proplugs have been very beneficial to helping in scuba diving. Doc’s Proplugs have been a huge supporter of those men and women and we want to also thank them for their support. The plugs come in a couple different colors and they are available in 8 different, pre-formed sizes to insure a proper fit. They also have leashes available so you won’t lose them. To find a shop near you, just contact them through their website Doc's Proplugs: The Doctor's Choice for Ear Protection.
According to DAN (Divers Alert Network) ear injuries are the number one injury to divers. Many divers do not continue to dive because they have had problems with their ears. These simple little plugs will definitely make your ears less problematic, preventing a lot of ear injuries divers may encounter. Doc’s Proplugs say, “Vented Proplugs are pre-formed earplugs with a vent hole design that allows for safe, and in most cases easier equalization. Surface tension is created when water tries to pass through the vent hole making pressure changes less abrupt. Also, Doc’s Proplugs prevent water from flushing in and out of the ear canal cutting down the occurrence of ear infections. The small amount of water that passes through the vent at about 20-25 feet stays warm with the body temperature, preventing exostosis, a bony growth in the ear canal common in divers.”
Recently I went on a trip on the Nautilus Explorer, and Stuart Westmorland said “Since using Doc’s Proplugs I have eliminated water in my ears, ear aches, and minor ear infections that plagued me on almost every extensive diving trip. Doc’s Proplugs rock!”
If you ever have had problems clearing your ears, I highly recommend you try these. The less than $15 investment is definitely worth it. It is one of, if not the best, affordable, piece of dive equipment you can buy.
Kelley Scarzafava owner of Anacortes Diving & Supply in Anacortes, Washington (Anacortes Diving and Supply) says “Doc’s Proplugs are the best thing since sliced bread.”
Doc’s Proplugs can also be used in other water-based activities for both children and adults in sports such as swimming, surfing, and kayaking. I highly recommend if you or someone you know, has issues with water entering your ears during any water activities, you cannot go wrong by running to your closest store that carries Doc’s Proplugs and get yourself a pair. It is very fast (each fitting takes around 30 seconds) and very affordable, and I promise you, you will be so happy you did. Doc's Proplugs: The Doctor's Choice for Ear Protection
Stay happy and in the water with Doc’s Proplugs!!!
