my XZ-1/PT-050 has two underwater SCN modes; wide angle and macro. it looks like the most significant difference from normal manual settings is that underwater wide angle has underwater white balance turned on, compulsory flash and underwater macro setting has macro, underwater white balance, and compulsory flash turned on.

xz-1/pt-050, internal flash, flash diffuser, underwater white balance, shutter priority program. ~20 ft, raja ampat, indonesia.

Did you write what you meant to write? You wrote that the wide angle and macro scene modes are the same, except the latter is macro.

that is what it looked like to me. there could be some other differences.. i only use the wide angle SCN mode with the flash turned off. i cannot set underwater white balance for far underwater shots if i use iAuto setting. for macro stuff i use manual modes with underwater white balance set with the flash power cranked up if i use the flash diffuser.
