It's a Japanese WWII wreck located approximately 52 meters off the coast of Malapasqua, Philippines. It sank in 1944 following an aerial attack and has since become a popular dive site, attracting divers and underwater photographers due to its historical significance and vibrant marine life.
Due to its depth, diving at the Mogami Maru is generally suitable for advanced divers.
OrcaTorch 6th Search for Atlantis Photo Contest 3rd prize underwater photographer Vera Wittenberg, a diving doctor and a member of GTÜM, the German Society for Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine. She took this photo in December 2023 in Malapasqua, Philippines. She and her fantastic buddies Matt Reed and Michael Buth performed multiple dives in different conditions on the vessel and took all the lights they could get hold of to add some sparkle to that fascinating wreck, of which the last dive led to this amazing shot.
