Who in here actually supports the local dive shop (Except you CK)?

Well, I can't take sole credit for supporting them because they have other customers....
And since there are so many dive shops around here I have to spread my support amongst several...
But I certainly try to do my part to see that they have plenty to eat and that their children do not go hungry either...
Course I have to consider the needs of those folks in the UK and Spain too for that matter...

LOL, UP.

I absolutely support my LDS, now. We got off to a little bit of a rocky start, as one of the salesmen quoted me retail on mask, fins, snorkel when I was preparing for my OW class, and I knew I could get them online for considerably less. Then, he gave me a decent deal on a wetsuit, a fair deal on a bc, and a great deal on computer/regulator/Duo-Air. (Although, some of you would probably hold the Duo-Air sale against him.) Now, anything I need, I buy from him, but never for full retail.

Most of the money I've spent on scuba over the past 2+ years has been at the LDS -- 2 or 3 different shops get my money. I also spend money on-line (mainly for gear not available at LDS).

LDS gives me advice -- some good, some bad.

Umm....yep, what UP said.

I purchase 90% of my gear at the LDS. It pays off in the long run. Between the yearly warranty visits, the LDS is always willing to spend 30-45 minutes going over my gear before a trip. This he does gratis. Also, when a problem has arisen and something needs to go back for warranty repair e.g. a computor, the LDS has loaned me a replacement. One cannot get theat service from a internet dive shop.

Depends on what you mean by "local". Aren't we all one big global community now?

95% of my gear was purchased at LDS, and I finally have it all minus a drysuit . However, I discovered online scuba shopping when I started on this board, and its hard for me to justify the prices of my LDS.

I recently paid for a horrendously overpriced "tech" BC. I was pretty happy about until I got to try LY's backplate/wing setup. I didn't even want my BC afterwards, but I paid in full (OUCH) and in turn "bought" a good relationship with the LDS.

Next year will be a drysuit purchase, which I will buy locally - I'd be worried about proper fit, seals.... when buying online. However, I think most other upgrades I get to my gear will be helping my LDS in Spain.

What GP said...

I do try to buy most of my stuff at my favorite LDS, but I'll occasionally buy online as well.

Mostly air & incidentals from LDS. Shopping and major purchases on line for better selection and prices. I believe LDS knows what I am doing but seems to appreciate what business I do bring him.
