If you have a Jr. Advanced open water certification, will you need to get re-certified for the regular advanced open water or does it just carry over?

With PADI, and presumably most agencies, it is easily converted for a moderate fee. When you are over 15, get a new picture and contact any PADI shop or instructor.

I think you can do it yourself from padis website and $40. Or you can keep the money and just keep the jr. Card.

Does anyone know how SSI handles this?

My son is 14 and certified with SSI in June. He turns 15 in August and we were told just to contact SSI (through the dive shop I assume) and they will send him out a new card.

No agency that I am aware of requires you to re-cert when you get older. Your experience far outweighs your class in most instances. That being said, I did re-cert a young diver after she turned 18. I offered just to upgrade her cert, but she wanted to re-do it because it was so much fun. Afterwards she admitted that she had forgotten a few of the lessons and was glad she took her AOW over again.
