Hey everyone... Ive been getting dizzy in ascents about 6 feet from the surface up, no matter how far down i've been. Could this be reverse squeeze maybe, or is dizziness not something that occurs with reverse squeeze? It has not happened every time i dive, just for the last year on and off. Please help because im diving in costa rica july 9th! thanks

I had this happen during my pool work for certification, and it seemed to be an equalization problem. What it felt like to me was a partial block that allowed one ear to release pressure but not the other, and that created a sense of vertigo. A few days later I had a bad sinus cold so I think it was the early stages of the cold that was the cause.

Now this only happened once, so if it's happening every ascent you should definitely get it checked out. Call DAN and ask for a diving specialist ENT in your area.

I'm not a doctor but my first guess would be that you're getting a pressure imbalance in your inner ears. One ear is probably clearing slower than the other during the ascent. Try ascending slower and failing that go see an ENT doctor and see if there is blockage that can be cleared out.

A similar thing happened to me when I was doing my last dive for OW cert this past weekend. We were down at 60' for about 10 minutes and then moved back up to about 30'. When making the ascent to 30' along the upward slope of the lake I had quite a funny feeling for about 10-15 seconds (that Dizzy feeling, more of a funny/disoriented feeling) I'm 98% sure it was because my right nasel/sinus wasn't clearing very well that day, most likely due to some Cats at my brothers house. But, this feeling didn't hamper my diving experience and went away very quickly. My 2bit story ;)

I too have the same question. It happened to me on two of my recent dives as well (never happened prior to this). However, I did have a bit of reverse block that didn't seem to be able to clear easily during these dives. Is that the main cause? Or can it be something else?
