Found a rip in the nylon layer of my neoprene drysuit while assembling my gear for tomorrow morning. Haf planned to do a dive in the morning (in about ten hours).

My first instinct is to trim down the frayed nylon with fabric scissors, then hit the neoprene itself with 'Aquaseal + Neo Contact Cement' (black).

Is this the right solution? I wouldn't hesitate to repair bare neoprene (my LDS repair tech showed me how to use the contact cement on a minor rip in the neck seal), but I'm not 100% sure when a nylon layer comes into play.

While it definitely seems minor, and I don't think my planned dive would destroy the suit, I really don't want to let the damage get worse. Is the best option to call the dive and take it into the shop for a repair tech to evaluate?

Welp... i learned an important lesson about sacrificing a small brush rather than using the one attached to the lid. It's not pretty but the damage seems to be repaired.

If I need to correct an error, please let me know!

Avoid the Auqaseal on neoprene; best to neoprene cement. I buy cheapo disposable brushes from Harbor Freight.

I would just use the black neoprene contact stuff on that without trimming. Aqua seal is ok too but stiffer.

Thank you! I used the black neoprene cement that comes in a can. I'll be dropping by Harbor Frieght to get some of those brushes; the brush on the lid of the can laid it on reaaaal thick haha.

Thank you! Used the black neoprene contact cement, though I ended up laying it on a little thick. It's probably best I avoided the aqua clear, since its in a high-stretch area.

I use similar brushes at work daily. I squeeze the end with flat grip pliers to better hold the bristles and then trim them down to about 1/4" or less. They are great for cleaning electronics and applying adhesives.
