I have not done this but can't imagine why it will not work...If the thickness of the belt is not enough you can cut a second layer (or more as needed) for the belt and glue them together using vulcanizing fluid.

Is there No sense of dive history with the current crop of bubble blowers ?

Inner tubes and items of rubber belting and tubing as been used for weight belts since recreational diving began in So Cal in the 1920s
