The only time I've seen one it took off as soon as it saw me. It was in the blue water off Roatan snorkeling with a whale shark which was following a bait ball. The oceanic white tip was under the bait ball and when we saw each other it took off like a rocket. I guess you need bait in the water to get them to hang around divers?

Not in the Red Sea, I did a southern trip and they were on every dive down by the big pinnacles.
