We are planning a cruise to Cozumel and Costa Maya next February. We would also like to do some diving. Is it a good idea to bring our own equipment or not.
Also, how is the water temp there in February.

Thanks,
Steve

if i was in your shoes id just bring my regulator, suit, mask/snorkel and dive computer. this is for hygenic purposes:) everything else you can pretty much rent.

Personally, I've seen too much dicey gear in the Caribbean and Mexico to feel comfortable with anything but my own stuff.

I always travel with my own gear - just because I too see lots of issues with people who rent. But if you are only going dive in one port of call, I might consider renting. You know, we dive while on a cruise that called on Costa Maya - I wouldn't do it again. The Chinchoro Banks are too far - dive ops in the area won't take you, and the areas they dive that are closer, are not all that great - no where near as good as Cozumel. Just my two cents.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me at suzi95628.

We're doing a scuba cruise in Dec 2006 to Belize, Roatan, Cozumel and Grand Cayman - with a group dive package. Too bad you can't join us!

I just returned from a cruise on Sat. and I dove Cozumel and Grand Cayman with all of my own gear. One thing to keep in mind might be the size of your cabin. If you have an inside room you might want to consider renting as there isn't a lot of extra space, but if you have a mini-suite or something it shouldn't be a problem.

Just something to think about.

I would bring my own equipment. If you are interested you can read my trip report on our recent cruise ship diving experience here:

We bring all of our own gear... And tip the cabin steward for lots of extra towels for gear drying :).
