My wife and I have dove in many different resorts throughout the Pacific and Southeast Asia. We just arrived at the Garden Island Resort in Taveuni and have dove the last two days at Jerry's Jelly, Fish, Factory, and Expressway.

This is undoubtedly one of our best diving experiences we have had in 30 years of diving. The hotel and staff are amazing with their service quality and friendliness. Every night they bring in a small band, including their staff, who can play anything from Bob Dylan to local Fijian music, everyone seems to play and instrument or sing. The dive operation is great and the dive sites are all about 15 minutes away, what a treat.

The diving, wow, i have never seen so many colors and types of coral, soft and hard. We have only seen a couple larger fish, reef sharks and a couple Amberjacks. But the numbers of fish and the number of species is incredible.

My wife and I were married there. Then off to the GBR on the Spoilsport for our honeymoon(No, my last name is not Watson). The rainbow reef is spectacular. The kava boy band played for us. Good times enjoyed by all. We went up and got pictures where the interenational date line runs through the island (the only pllace it crosses land), hiked up to the falls and one of the employees took us up in the mountains bird watching. Taveuni is the only place where the flame dove is found.

Yeah, great stuff there. I like walking the road at night, with literally thousands of Frogs jumping around! Solid diving as well. Love all of the Blue Ribbon Eels.

Aren't there also supposed to be a lot of fruit bats hanging around too?

Don't really remember the Fruit Bats in Fiji. But the Fruit Bats in Boracay are the lagest in the world. Large like Hawks! Fly in large flocks at dusk. Also, you eat them in the Soup in Palau.

Our LDS has switched from Beqa to Garden Island for their two yearly trips so were looking at a trip soon. We just got back from Roatan and did 20 dives in a week without trying. Are you limited to a 2 tank boat dive once a day or is there a way to get a larger number of dives in during the week? Thanks for the first hand reports.

I'll be there next December, sounds great, thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the update Gary. Did you get any pics? Wife and I are leaving in 30 days to the same spot. Dis you stay upstairs or ground level? What did you think of the food? Visibility this time of the year? I can hardly contain myself and focus at work we are so excited to go!
