I just returned from a week in Puerto Aventuras, diving with Dive Aventuras. First off, I want to say that this is the best dive shop I have ever gone with. This was my second time, and I will absolutely be back.

The most divers we had on the boat during the week was 9, and with that we had 3 DMs. I saw one of the other local shops head out with 12 on board their panga, and only saw 2 DMs. Not a slam, just an observation on how good Dive Aventuras is.

My first time diving with them was fantastic. Carlos and Michel became the standard by which I still judge all other DMs. The OW dives were great, and the cenote dives were super cool.

This time, I took my 11 year old JOW daughter. This time we had Max and Cesar as DMs. They lived up to what we had experienced on our first trip. They showed us a number of seahorses, turtles, eagle and sting rays, along with some very nice reef areas. On the final day, there was a decent current, making for a great light drift. We covered some serious distance!

On the final day we went on the whale shark snorkel, also arranged through Dive Aventuras. This trip requires a 1:30 ride to norht of Cancun, near Isla Mujeres. Then there was another :45 - 1:00 boat ride out to open water. It was so worth it! I simply cannot put into words how incredible it was to swim alongside those gentle giants. Felipe, our DM, personally took my daughter and helped her swim alongside the whale sharks. My daughter was beyond excited, as was I. Simply wonderful.

Along with the whale sharks, we saw a manta, and dolphins from the boat. On the trip back, we stopped on the beach of Isla Mujeres from some fresh ceviche and cerveza (soda for the kids), and just hung out for about an hour.

I will say that the diving in this area is not as amazing as Coz or Cayman, and nobody in Riv Maya suggests that it is. It was perfect for this trip, with my kid. If you are staying around Puerto Aventuras (~15km south of PDC), go with Dive Aventuras.

+1
Dive Aventuras really is the Gold Standard. I have used them a dozen times and they are always the same, GREAT. Cenotes, classes, just plain fun diving, they handle it all. They even helped my wife set up a surprise trip for me. They set up everything except the flight, including coffee in the morning. Armando will even fix your gear if you manage to break something.

I am glad you had a great time, but I am not surprised.
