My 19-year-old son and I will be staying at Cozumel Palace and plan to dive March 7 through March 9. Which dive companies would you recommend? We would like to dive with a small group and dive Nitrox.

Did ya try the search function?

Your going to get a lot of suggestions, but there is already so much under COZ forum for one to peruse....

The only outfit offering Nitrox for free is ProDive....

I just dove with scubaluis. Awesome operation. I asked for a private DM and Luis put me with Jaime. The group as a hole was awesome, knowledgeable, and very accommodating. They also have lionfish hunting which I wasn’t able to do.

As mentioned do a search and you will get some good info. I am a huge fan of Tres Pelicanos and they will pick you up at the pier. They offer nitrox for a few bucks more, have wonderful DM’s and if you have some experience they will let you dive your own tank. They also usually have 4-6 divers at most. You really can’t go wrong with any of the “popular” dive shops you see on here but each of them kind of have their own unique character.

I have liked Tres Pelicanos (popular on this board along with Blue XT Sea and Aldora), but I will try Living Underwater on my next visit. Large tanks (120 cf) like Aldora, but they let you dive your tank. Aldora will make everyone go up at the same time. If you're the first person low on air, then you will have to share air with the DM (at least that's what's been reported on this board).

Are you sure 3P's will pick up from the Cozumel Palace? Coz Palace is quite a bit further north from the marina where 3P's departs from. If so, good to know. I assumed you'd have to meet them at their shop for the drive to the marina if you are staying anywhere downtown or that far north of the marina?

Yes 3 P's will pick up there but with a car or truck or have a taxi do it. They transport the divers to the marina rather than bring the boat north.

Jeanie from 3P was good enough to come and get me at Hotel B when I couldn't get a taxi. They will go out of their way to help their customers.

+1 for ScubaLuis. He picked my son and I up by boat and in his truck staying at Cozumel Palace in January. Fast boat. 6 divers max ( we had 4 max and only on the last day ). Luis is a second generation Cozumel dive master and behaves like the professional diver he is. One thing to note is he leaves the dock at 7:30am " to get to the reef before the divers scare off the marine life" We only saw 2-3 ( 1 was ooa ) other divers underwater in 4 days and one night of diving. I dove with him for several years when he managed ScubaTony. He now has his own boat / dive operation.
fyi - Big breakfast at C P starts at 7:00am but you can get coffee, cereal, toast, fruit... starting at 6:30am so getting a bite and leaving early is not a problem.
Also - you can dive with the C P dive operator using your resort credits and the cost for the first several dives is included. I did not dive with them but it is an added value when staying at C P that some may not realize. They use larger boats, leave about 8:30-9+-, not sure what dive op they use.
