I'll be in Honduras next week, and was planning on doing some diving on Roatan. However, I note that it's the rainy season, and that this particular season has been especially rainy. Has anyone been diving down there recently? Is it worth bothering with? Should I skip Roatan altogether? (I'd only be heading over for 5-6 days to dive, and that would be the only reason I'd go there).

Thanks in advance for the input.

I was at Fantasy Island resort last December. It is the rainy season and I noticed the vis was not quite as good as the previous May when I was at Cocoview (Coco was fully booked else I would have returned there) still 50 ft was as bad as it got. At that time of yr you may want to go Cocoview because of the way their boats are configured. If seas are a bit rough (which happens that time of yr now and then) Cocoview hasw a middle of the boat entry. Yes, a hole in the middle of the boat where you can come up the ladder. Minimizes any boat movement - virtually makes reboarding a snap! Why in the world don't others do this???

Glander, if I was in Honduras, even if it was the rainy season, you would have to shoot me in the head to keep me from getting over to Roatan (or Utila) to dive!!:rofl3:

Even if it's the rainy season, there will still be decent vis (hey, I'm used to 20 feet or less). Besides, the cool stuff to see there is the tiny macro life and you don't need 150ft vis for that!

If I were you, I'd go for it!!!

Cheers!:coffee:

Hi,
We were at Coco View thanksgiving week. The diving was great except for one day when the visibility was extremely poor. The other days were terrific! I wore a skin and my 3mm suit and was pretty cold after about 10 dives. I bought a hat from Patty that helped. However, if I go back this time of year again I will take my skin and 5mm suit.
Definitely go - but take some stuff to stay warm under water. It was shorts and tank top weather on land.
Enjoy your trip. We certainly did and are looking forward to returning.
Barbara
