I have an opportunity to dive Key Largo in November. Does anyone know what the water temperature is like then? Have any ideas if it is worth it? It is kinda pricey for a two tank dive.......taking suggestions!

I'm cold natured and I'm fine diving in November in Key Largo with a 3 mil. I've had some of my best dives down there that time of year. Always worth it!

Not quite sure what you mean by "kinda pricey for a two tank dive". Dive prices in the Keys are fairly typical for diving costs around the world, actually cheaper than a lot of other places. That isn't to say diving isn't an expensive sport, just that relatively speaking diving in the Keys is priced right.

From my perspective, your a short drive away AND the charter prices are GREAT!

Just looked at Ocean Divers and 5 charter trips is only $70 per trip; pricey???

I'm going in the middle of Oct and going through the computer for a trip at the end of Oct last year, the water temp was in the upper 70's at the wrecks.

I wore a 3mm full suit as did my two buddies.

It is well worth it.

Enjoy!

It is a heck of lot warmer on that coast than in the Gulf that time of year. I would dive a 3mm, poss my 1 mm. I am hot blooded though.

Wife and I did Key Largo for Thanksgiving in 2004 - log shows that water was 77 degrees..........:)

She had a 5 mm fullsuit and I a 3 mm fullsuit.......

I recall a younger diver on the trip buying a hooded vest for the second day, she was in a 3 mm fullsuit.......

The reason for the thicker neoprene was cooling during the surface interval the air temp as 75 to 77 degrees so bring a jacket..........

The other issue is the dives are simple slow reef exploring dives so you don't really fin much.....

They are great dives and with lots to see are well worth it........

Hope this helps........M

A 2 tank dive at Pompano Beach, FL is $55. Down in Key Largo, the 2 tank dive is $70-80. So it is more expensive.

I think a valid question would be "is it a rip off?". First off, there are quite a few operators on Key Largo, and they are all in the same price range. If it was possible to undercut $70 and still make decent money, don't you think someone would?

Also, it stands to reason that prices for the dive operators in Key Largo are more expensive than the east coast mainland of Florida. Their fuel, food, housing, rent and so on are probably all more expensive down there.

Is it worth it for divers to go down to Key Largo vs the east coast? Well, up on the east coast, you do not have hard corals. Down in Key Largo you do. It is the closest place to see them. Otherwise, you have to hop on a jet and go tp points south. Paying $15 more for a 2 tank dive to see hard coral, looks well worth the price. Of course, if you don't care about coral, don't dive there. It is your choice.

The water temp around Largo was 86 yesterday. Way too hot really. Dove in a Speedo. I looked at my log book and I had entered a surface water temp of 83 for October 16th,and a surface water temp of 81 for November. On the 15th of December it had fallen to 76 degrees. Bottom temps ran from 69 to 74 depending on the currents. All these were at the Speigle Grove.
