very sad for all families involved but again reminds me why we have a lawn man... wouldnt want hubby to fall into the birdbath and drown or at least make sure he always mows the lawn with a buddy

WorkCover is investigating the death of a man who crashed a ride-on mower into a dam in Central Western NSW.

According to the Sun-Sentinel, a landscaper was killed this morning when the lawn mower he was riding flipped over into a pond, pinning him underneath the water.

you know, having been a ZTR guy for a while, I know how easy it is for one of those rigs to side slip on an incline and with the tires they run (turf tires for golf courses so they don't tear up the grass) there is no traction. I'd almost ended up in a canal on more than one occaision! It didn't matter one bit if it was my little low gravity Grasshopper mower or my buddies Dixie Chopper.. sideways it went! Hmm.. Pilots would know how it feels... like landing in a good crosswind.

My sympathies for the families of the deceased, its not as easy a job as some may think and this is just one of the unforseen or thought of hazards that show up.

Easy fix, astroturf the lawn!

I'm into "natural landscaping" for my Northern Calif house. That sounds a lot better than saying "ignore it completely and let happen what happens".

It has worked out much better than I expected since the deer move in while we are gone and keep the grass mowed, so I don't have to mess with those dangerous power lawnmowers. :)
