Hello all. I am an American Soldier and am currently deployed to the Sinai for the Multi-National Forces and Observers (MFO).

We are currently locked down to the base here for the time being, but if we ever get off base, what are the mandatory dives here? Curious to see what those whom have dove here what dives they likes the best.

Most of my diving is in Cozumel and Texas lakes, I would really like to see some big fish!

BTW, what does a 2 tank dive trip usually cost in USD?

Thanks for your help and time!

Jeff

ss thistlegorm is the most well known wreck in the red sea.best dived from a liveaboard but you can do it from sharm.

the big fish are usually more common in the southern red sea.

I guess a day on a boat will be $100 maybe more if you need to rent kit .
$20 for the visa

There's a great book that you would probably find entertaining and useful. It's written by a PADI instructor who lived in Sharm for a number of years and wrote about his life there. It's very funny and yet has many poignant parts as well. I really lived this book. It's called " Lost Wife, Saw Barracuda". Great read.
Thanks for serving!
BTW, I was assigned as the IIIrd Corps Artillery Surgeon for my last assignment. I was stationed at Ft. Sill and did a lot of TDY at Ft.Hood.

The Thistlegorm looks like a must do! I am going to put it on the list!

I tried looking at the book, but they only have it in Kindle version. Looks like they sell it in Sharm, I will see if I can aquire a copy somehow.

Tracydr, I am stationed at Ft. Hood with the 3rd Bde 1st Cav.

Thanks for the replies!

Ha! Going O.K man, how are you? Lots of great diving here, but locked down on base, bummer... was hoping to get my dive master cert while I was here, but its looking iffy...

You would make a killing here as an instructor!

How is Florida?

If you can get even a minisafari it's esp great not to do the Thistlegorm from a day boat. Enjoy the luxury of trying up just as the day boats head home, get in a 2nd dive later that night, send photos from the boat lounge after dinner and then get a 3rd dive in the morning. A much nicer agenda.
Abu Nuhas would also be a fabulous place to visit, 4 different wrecks and a nice reef for a night dive too.

If you can get get a few days R&R then the short 3 night cruises would get you to the Thistlegorm and avoid the crowds to a certain extent. King Snefro 5 offers for these shorter trips but if you can only get a day or 2 then take the shorter day trips, you're still gonna love it!

We dived the Salem Express last week, very morbid wreck.

My next liveaboard will be simply the best (The Brothers weather permitting, Elphinstone and Daedalus)
