Diving in Punta Cana vs St. Lucia??

Does anyone have any advice on diving in Punta Cana or St. Lucia? We are looking at going on our honeymoon in one of these places and would like to do a few dives. We are not die-hard divers but would like to have some good dives. Also, does anyone know of good dive companies in either of these places? I've read that in Punta Cana you don't use a ladder to get back into the boat, this I'm not too crazy about. I would much rather use a ladder. So if anyone knows of a place who uses ladders, could you let me know?

Welcome to Scubaboard! I have not been to DR but have heard that the diving is mediocre at best. I have been to St. Lucia and can recommend the diving there. Where are you thinking of staying in St. Lucia?
