My husband is getting his open water certification and we were planning on going to Mazatlan in February. I am concerned about the visibility of the water. I would be interested to hear from any other divers.

welcome aboard

Dear Michael, I am doing some research for friends who will be traveling to Mazatlan next September. I read the pdf document you posted and found it informative. My questions left are related to the shop itself. How did you find the staff? Did they rent steel as well as aluminum tanks? Were/are they a PADI shop? I am rather particular about tanks and how the air smells. I don't care to rent equipment from shops when the air smells. What other information would be helpful to me in researching scuba diving down there for my friends? They are probably going to certify in late spring or early summer, and I hope to take them out on a few recreational dives during the summer so they can practice their bouyancy and other skills before they dive Mazatlan. Thanks for any insights you can provide! Seahorse Deb

They were very friendly. They only had aluminum 80s. They are a PADI shop. There was no smell that I remember from the air. Like the report said, viz can ranged from 20 down to 5 feet. When we were there they had some problems with jelly fish so we had to pretty much stay on the lan side of the islands. It is very shallow diving maybe a max of 30 feet with surge.

Mike
