hi all,
having dived exclusivley in sharm and dahab for the last six years i decided to go for a change in july and try hurghada.
can anyone make recommendations for dives to try. got the feeling when asking other divers that i might have been better off sticking to sharm.
its just that i fancied trying somewhere different
thanks

Hi,
There are lots of good off-shore dive sites in the area. Last Year in June we did Tobia Arba and Gamul Kebir near Soma Bay on a day trip. Then Tobia Kebir and Tobia Hamra nearer to Safaga. The Abu Ramada sites close to Giftun are awesome. I just got back from Makadi bay a week ago and diving was confined to the bay due to rough seas. The sites I mentionned are on par with Sharm el Sheikh, just different and less crowded for sure. I am not into deep/advanced diving or wrecks etc.

Hi guys/gals

I'm due to stay in Makadi Bay at the beginning of August and will be staying at the Sunrise Royal Makadi Bay. Does anyone happen to know what Dive Centre is affiliated/linked to the hotel?

Many thanks

Hi,

P D L, Professional Diver Leadership are on-site at the Sunrise Royal MB. Then within 50 m to the south is Aquarius. I-dive is another 100 m to the north and my beloved Eytra Divers are in the Madinat Makadi 400 m away to the south again. Here is a report I made from a visit last month: Scuba Diving Reviews | Dive Shop Reviews | Extra Divers - Makadi Bay | Hurghada | Scubadviser
On one other travel board I-dive seems to get most favours from Sunrise guests.

Thanks diverlux. I checked out PDL's website and found it as useful as a fart in a sleeping bag. Luckily, it looks like I've got Aquarius and IDive on either side of me so I should be well covered. I haven't dived for three years, so will need to book a Scuba Review beforehand to get back up to speed.

There you go and this is great diving in a most relaxed environment when conditions are right.
The Sunset dive we did at the Azure reef in the bay (a coral garden at 16 m) was quite special we were in a small group just a perfect match the only ones out there even the beach was empty, we returned just before it started to become dark.
I am off to Coraya Bay/Marsa Alam tomorrow for a week diving to recover from the mess last month.
Happy diving and do post some photos please !

To jump in on the back of this thread, are there any sites when there's a reasonable chance of coming across any sharks/big stuff? I'm going 8-15th July to do a cross over course but will have 3 or days proper diving so keen to get some action in.

TIA,
J

Dont know about the sharks, but I really enjoyed...

Ras Disha, Urak Disha, Abu Ramada, Gotta Abu Ramada, Abu Hasheesh Lagoon, Sharm Rasheed, Erug Abu Hasheesh.

Saw a huge grouper, and a nice Napolean for big stuff.

The Citadel Azur house reef is also very nice.

I have done alot of diving in hurghada. i have had some of the best dives ever here and i have seen some amazing things like whale sharks, white tips and large baracudas and turtles and many large dolphins.
