Wee first post.

I'm going to Australia in December an traveling the east coast for almost month, during Christmas I'm staying in Hervey Bay for a week, so I was hoping to maybe log a few dives there. Can anyone here at SB recommend a dive op in Hervey Bay, and since I am still new to diving guided tours is not necessary a bad ting.
I'm traveling with a non-diving (yet) friend, but snorkeling so if there is some good places to do that around there I like to hear about it.

I have heard that stingers don't come this far south, true or false?

Around New Year we are booked on Heron Island, haven't found that much about it here on SB.
Anyone have some good or bad ting to say about Heron Island, maybe Lady Eliot had been a better fit.

And at the end of the trip we have a few days in Brisbane, so I am looking for a dive op there also.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

Handberg - if you do a search in Google for 'dive Hervey Bay' the link to the website of Hervey Bay's only dive operator should appear right at the top.

As for stingers - I've lived here in the Bay for 5 years now and there has only been one reported sighting of stingers and that was about two summers ago and there were some unusual circumstances around the reported finding. Even though some marine experts went looking for more in the area - over towards Fraser Island and much further north than the town - I don't think they ever found any.

Right now the biggest drama is a confirmed sighting of a crocodile. It's been seen in the water but no one has been able to find where it's set up camp.

Hope that helps

Stuart

Hervey Bay is close enough to arrange a side trip to Lady Elliott. That might be worth considering.... We loved it and can't wait to get back there....

Just wondering and reviving this old post- I will be going to Hervey Bay myself in a few months. How is the diving there and what did you get to see?
