Just updating this in case anyone else looking for Cuba information stumbles across this thread. Be aware that the dual currency system was closed down on the 1st Jan this year. The "convertible peso" has been withdrawn. All transactions are now with the standard peso (moneda nacional).
The rules on exchange, import and export of the Peso remain the same, you can only buy/exchange it within Cuba, and the exchange rate is fixed. Cards are a bit hit and miss. It's mostly a cash economy still.
