Diving in Croatia

Has anyone ever dived in Croatia? We're looking for centres around the Split and Zadar. Any information gratefully received.

have you done a search, its been discussed a few times? my 2cents; two years ago i went to Dubrovnik and did some diving. i absolutely loved the place. the diving was ok, but the food, scenery and people were great. with the risk of insulting both my family in the states and italy i'd say croatia is my favorite place ive ever visited. its italy without all the NY/NJ tourist(born and raised here so i can say without offending to many).

I did and in fact in two weeks I'm going there. We are staying on the island Ist - which is close to Zadar.

The diving sites are great including one of the most beautiful caves - Catedrale. The instructor is Slovenian cave and DIR diver.

I love this island mostly because of:
1. It's a small place with only one village
2. there are no cars!!!!!!! - Cars are left in Zadar and then you travel by ferryboat. In the village the only mechanical moving vehicle is a small tractor that collects the garbage.
3. There are no discos or big hotels
4. the island is peaceful and quite but not boring - lovely people living there 3 excellent restaurants (frutti di mare mostly) and lots of local wine

You have whetted my appetite.. What are the logistics in getting there? If we drive down how likely is it to have the car stolen? (Leaving it at Zadar for a week). How widely is English spoken? Can we spend Euro? Nitrox availability?

Any feedback appreciated - I think this could be the holiday destination for us this year.. (thanks all above).

I believe you won't have any problem.

Local people will gladly convert your Euros to local currency

Nitrox availability?

Depends on diving center. It's best to check in direct contact.

Last year both I and my friends have left our cars in Zadar for 10 days. Upon our return they were both dusty but intact.
I believe that our cars were just as endangered as yours would be (since our license plates were from the other part of the country), so everything went fine.

You can't spend Euro, but there are hundreds of exchange offices.

first in Rab then in Brac, exactly in front of Split.
