I am a rather newly cerified diver and have the opporunity to go diving in either Australia or New Zealand and have heard both are better than the other. If anyone has been to either of these places ,please comment on which you enjoyed more or why you enjoyed diving one and any other suggestions.

Thanks,
Anna

I have enjoyed many great dives around the Sydney (NSW) area. The water was colder (around 16° C) than what I’m used to (30° C) but not so cold that you’d need a drysuit. Lots of unusual creatures one rarely (or never) see elsewhere—Sea Dragons, Port Jackson, Wobbegong and Gray Nurse sharks, Old Wives etc. Many beautiful sites. One can do four day dives (boat or beach) and be back in central Sydney before dark. Very convenient. Plus Sydney is a wonderful city, full of friendly people and great food.

I’ve never been to the “famous” dive destinations in Australia such as the Great Barrier Reef or Ningaloo.

New Zealand is definately better, and that has NOTHING do do with the fact that Im from there.. :eyebrow:

West Island on the other hand does have the barrier reef.

Uh, where in Australia do you have the opportunity to go? Your question is a bit like "I have the opportunity to go diving in either Canada or the US".

New Zealand very well maybe cheaper than Austrailia.

Hard to say, but the Economy in Oz is really going well, which has made things more expensive.
