Hello!

Wondering if anyone has any advice for splashing the Savannah river near Augusta or Lake Thurman. We're heading down next week. (March 19)
How's the vis, temps, etc?
Is Petersburg a worthwhile dive? Best place for artifacts in river?
We're from the Detroit area and hit wrecks locally, Sanilac preserve, Lake Superior etc. and look forward to exploring some Lake Erie wrecks this summer is anyone's interested.
So any suggestions or advice on GA. would be appreciated.

Welcome to the board. I'm in Augusta and we dive both the lake and river just about every weekend. Currently water temps are about 51 degrees at the lake and about the same in the river. We had a heavy rain last week so the river vis is not very good right now but may clear by the 19th. In response to your questions, there is not much left to Pertersburg (few bits of foundations). The best lake diving is at East Dam (SC side). Enter in the corner and follow the rocks out (stay at about 20' and you will hit a rope laying on the bottom. Follow it down to the plane (Mitsubishi MU2) another rop off the back of the plane takes you along the bouyancy course to the ski boat. For river diving (if it clears) most folks dive the N. Augusta Boat landing, 5th street marina or the old marina at the boat house. IF you are diving dry, you may be able to do the drift from 5th street to the old marina boat ramp (about 1-1 1/2 hours). We will be diving next weekend though we may head to Lake Jocassee one of the two days for diving. PM if you would like to join us for diving.
