G'day All,
Just a quicky, I was wondering if any one of you had dived soon after an achilles tendon rupture repair? If soo did you strap your foot? How did it go?
Im itching to get out their the weather has just turned and its beautiful no wind no swell
your thoughts and ideas would be apreciated.
Cheers
Clint

I tore mine last easter getting off the boat into the water :( caught my heel on the side of the boat. finished my dive and then found I couldn't put weight on that foot lol. was tapeing the leg and it worked well for the diving, but was a 'pain' getting to the water on long shore entries. as long as you arent planning any long walks , not too bad. ohh and thanks to all my buddies that helped get my heavy stuff back and forth .

How long since your surgery? The time you have to worry is when you are wearing the gear and walking, putting all that extra weight on your tendon. Once in the water you're golden.

I had 100% rupture mid December (43 year old playing racquetball), surgery end of december, and was walking on it by end of february, and had no trouble diving in Hawaii in mid May.

Are you still in your walking boot?

Doc said that the tendon is stronger than my other tendon on my last post - op checkup in beginning of may.

Taping / strapping your ankle is not likely to help as much as simply not putting too much weight on it. Taping will just keep you from over extending it, which might be a good idea.

If you have to dive (don't we all?), then don your gear in the water. This assumes you didn't rupture your heel last month - that might be a different story.
