Well actually, there are a couple of "more popular" threads, but that was in the top 3! But I agree with your sentiment. A few can spoil it for the many!
For what it's worth, we try to not moderate. We honestly try to let the various forums police themselves. Unfortunately, inuendo has a way of snowballing and getting way big way too quick. Since we ARE a family board, we simply cannot allow that type of thing. There are other boards with standards that are far more lax that ours, and they actually appreciate course humor. They also allow flaming and trolling which seems to take the fun out of a board like this.
We want ScubaBoard to be both FUN and SAFE. Our users should never be afraid to ask a question or make a point without being jumped on or be put in an environment which makes them feel uncomfortable. I think our mission statement says it best:
Welcome to www.Scubaboard.com: a diverse online community of scuba diving enthusiasts dedicated to sharing the wonders of our underwater world in a safe, family oriented environment. Our focus is to advance safety, knowledge and enjoyment within the diving community by encouraging the mutual exchange of experiences, ideas and opinions. BTW this mission statement is the very first paragraph of our TOS.
