That's fantastic news. I'm happy they were rescued alive. :)

bengiddins once bubbled...
I'd be buying a lottery ticket if I were them!

I’d be making a sacrifice to the scuba Gods!

what can I say - amazing!

I will definitely continue my policy of diving with 2 SMB's and 2 reels especially for offshore deco diving.

They are two very lucky divers.

My instructor for decompression procedures had a saying about gear redundancy.

"Two is one and one is none"

This is in reference to any single peice of gear that can fail or tangle or whatever at the wrong time during a dive.

From reading the story, it sounds like they only had 1 reel & bag between them.

A second bag could have solved the problem. Well... Provided that it did not get tangled during deployment as well.

On any dive that might require a lift bag and or reels my buddy and I both carry at least 1 of each and usualy 2nd reels as well.

I have been looking into getting a safety sausage as well as my bag but havn't yet. I DO however have a signal mirror in a neoprene pouch on my left shoulder webbing. It sits flat under the BC inflator hose. I hope I never need to take it out for any reason other than vanity and/or cleaning after dives...
