Well after the Bali trip I decided to take the GF to Fujarih and spend a few days outside of Saudi Arabia. So a quick call to Karin at Divers Down it was all set up at the Miramar Resort where there shop is located at. We were off to the Duabai airport where it takes the longest time on record to get thru the airport. The driver was waiting and off we went to the resort and it was a sight for the GF who had not been here before. The resort is beautiful and the services including the restaraunts and the spa were great, they even had both a pool and a beach area. The diving was good and of course meeting new friends and just being around the peopel at Divers Down makes for a good vacation. Getting to do 8 dives in 3 days and even getting to spend some time with Karin and paul away from the shop ( thats another story) was great and just what we needed.

So all in all if your in this area and find yourself with soem extra time and want to do some quality dives with a quality shop, just call Karin at Divers Down and she can make it happen .

Cheers
Michael

What's the diving like there and how long of a trip is it from DXB?

Thanks for the info!

Visibilty depends on where your diving as they have several sites. We have had as much as 20 meters in some areas and down to maybe 3-5 meters in others . They guys at the dive shop pretty much no what sites are the best on what days and due to conditions in the area. By all means call and ask them what vis there getting and what they expect on the days your thinking about going there . It takes the limo driver about an hour and a half to get there from DXB.

Cheers

The hour and a half journey is pretty standard from Dubai. Tried every way possible to do it quicker but nope.

As SM says, the vis can vary greatly, but there are some pretty reasonable sites just a short boat ride from the dive centre.

I am off there this weekend teaching (so long as my student gets over his viral infection).

Perfect. I was able to find it on a map this afternoon. It looks like there are some mountains between Fajahra (sorry if it's spelled incorrectly) and Dubai. Is that a problem as far as DCS goes? Do you have to wait there at the resort for 24 hours before going back to Dubai to fly out?
I will be coming from Kuwait and usually I only have two three sometimes four days to take a vacation.

Thanks again for all of your help and thanks for pointing this area out. I have been looking for an alternative to Sharm el Sheik.

Well i have never thought about the mountains before and now I will have to look into their altitude, but I dont remember crosssing any mountains on the way in or out of there. I weill let you know what I find out and I think you will like it there for sure. Get ahold of Karin and let her do the booking thru the dive center I think they get a better rate for you .

Cheers
Michael

The Hajar mountains are the ones you cross/go over.

There are 3 roads you can take to get to DD from Dubai and all involve the mountains at some stage. They aren't really that high, only 300/400m.

Plus, by the time you reach the mountains, it would probably be nearly 2 hours since you surfaced, at the earliest

Awesome. I just saw them in the background and my friend said you need to cross them to get back to DXB.
I'd like to do my 24 hour no fly interval in Dubai proper.

Thanks for all the input. I am looking forward to coming and doing some diving in the UAE.
