Great BC, modular, highly customizable and great for a full range of diving. What's else do you need to know?

Nope, don't own one, but part of me wishes I did. I know numerous divers that do have them though, and they all absolutely love them.

I like mine fine.
What would you like to know beyond that and what the Dive-Rite site has to say?
It's a great BC.

j27rock,

Hi and welcome to the boards!
I really like my Trans-pac II.
If you look through the older threads in the BC's forum there are several threads about this BC.

Fits well and I like it. Fits a lot of different sized people also. I'm using my backplate and wing more now though but still use the Transpack 2 regularly. But do try it first. Some people don't like back inflate BC's. So maybe you won't like it.

He doesn't have a lot of dives on it YET, but so far loves it. He's 6'4", about 300 lbs, so he's hard to fit. But the DR made it easy to customize to his needs.

His only "complaint" is getting used to the back flotation that seems to push you forward while in the surface.

I would still like to see a head to head comparison of a transpak and a Halcyon. From what I saw with a transpak it is or can be a backplate and wings config so Mverick your statement confuses me. From shopping I found, so far, I can get a Halcyon full set up w/o weight integration about a $100 cheaper than buying each peice of a Transpak individually and end up with approximately the same thing.

I have both the Halcyon with a 27lb wing Stainless,$450, and a Dive Rite Transpack 2 with Trek Wing,$450 with weight pockets.
Can't really add a Solid backplate to a Transpack. So it's soft on your back. If you're just using a thin suit or a tshirt with your gear it can be softer than a Halcyon. But my Halcyon has a pocket on the back that softens it up to. I use the Halcyon mostly with my drysuit and a weight belt. I have other backplates I use with doubles, 6 or 7 I lost count. Basicly I have way to much gear, not a bad thing is it. So I rotate the stuff. I like the Halcyon because it doesn't have a bunch of extra junk I don't need on it. I like the Trans Pack because it's soft and cushy.
And a backplate and wing is different. No extra junk hanging off and no extra buckles. Just the facts and what you need.
Oh, Wanna buy a new Aluminum Backplate and harness. $80 plus shipping. It's black and powder coated. Has new style Halcyon cutouts too. Like I said I have to much gear.
But I like and use both. The Transpack is nice in the pool with students too. I don't have any complaints on either the Dive Rite or the Halcyon.

Now wait a minute.... I'm really confused.

Leisure pro sells the Transpac II and SS back plate and trek wing and harness to go with it. All for $572 plus shipping. The best proce I have found on a halcyon for a single tank was $650. I oopsed in my earlier post... forgive me. Where can you find them for $450 first... and why do you say you can't put a back plate in a transpac.

Honestly I think I have about figured out the best way to go is buy the peices from different places and put it together, but I still don't know what I'm doing yet with it.

I've never heard of putting a backplate in a Transpac. That's new to me. You can do it with the OMS version the IQ. When I got my Transpack 2 last year it was $450 with trek and weight pockets from LP. The shop with the halcyon had a snafu and where going to sell me the old style for $400. Then they sold it before they got it all together. To make me happy they sold me a new one for $450. I don't think you can get it for that from them but I bet it isn't $650. Diversdirect.com sells them for $504 for the 27lb wing. I don't think they could beat that price.
But why would they be selling you a harness for the backplate with a trans pac 2. The trans pac 2 is the harness. You'd have 2 sets of straps. You might be able to rig it together but I wouldn't. Have you ever seen anybody put a backplate in a Trans Pac? Just wondering. I have never heard of doing that. You could use that wing with the backplate and harness though. Maybe that's why they put it all together in a package. So you could use the Backplate and harness OR the Trans pac2 with the Trek wing. On a Dive Rite you'd still need the Single Tank Adapter though. While on a halcyon you don't.
For a Transpc 2 all you need is the Transpac 2 harness, wing, cam bands. You don't need a backplate for it. For doubles you use the stabalizing plates. But I use a backplate and harness for doubles. Less wobbling.
