What is Kydex? Some sort of resin?

Your ignorance is no excuse for referring to my company, and its products as marginal.
I'd suggest you educate your self about advancements in scuba equipment and materials *Before* offer advice concerning those goods.
Kydex, for those without access to Google, is a tough thermoplastic, an alloy of PVC and Polycarbonate.
LEO's are well acquainted with Kydex as it is widely used for knife sheaths and holsters for side arms.
This tough thermoformable material is also commonly used for high abuse sections of aircraft interiors, kick panels etc.
The toughness of kydex, which is a measure of a materials ability to absorb stress without rupture, makes it much more appropriate for backplates than ABS, which if thermoformed and not subsequently stress relieved is subject to cracking.

Why so defensive? "Marginal" was a reference to your position in the marketplace, not a derogatory comment on either the business or its products (which I suspect are excellent). Though I must admit I haven't seen the US dive retail scene for several years (the last DEMA I went to was over 5 years ago), so I can't be certain I'm right. I just have not so far knowingly seen any of your products down here, although wings and BPs are quite common.
And yes, Kydex is what I thought it was. Are you suggesting that anyone makes backplates out of ABS? How stable is Kydex in sunlight?

If your information is years old I would again suggest your are ill equipped to offer advice on newer goods.
Many back plates have been produced from ABS, and these have developed a reputation for catastrophic failure, cracking in half. This practice was *more* common during the period you claim to have been a dealer for one of the major brands that offered ABS plates.
Kydex can be had in a UV resistant grades and is quite stable. As with any thermoplastic exposures to high temps should be limited.

Has anyone had any problems trying to use a halcyon wing on a transpac?
