A diver has been found dead after getting into trouble near Moturoa Island in Northland.
A police spokesman said police received a report of a diver getting into trouble in the water around 8.30am on Friday.

He said the report came in from Black Rocks Bay, near Moturoa Island in the Bay of Islands.

The Police Maritime Unit, a commercial dive boat and a medical helicopter attended the scene.

However, the diver was found dead around 10am.

The spokesman said the police dive squad would attend the scene to help in extracting the diver's body from the water.

The death will be referred to the coroner.
