By Underwater in anther part of this forum There was one unfortunate incident. During the week one of the guests died. She was assisted in from a shore dive and was apparently dead shortly after. There was no discussion of this from the management of the resort, but it did bring home the issue of mortality and made the trip a bit more reflective than expected. She was relatively young. As usual there were different stories about what happened. I met her before the accident so she was not a faceless person to me. It is something that I truly wish did not happen.

Looking for more information!

i heard it was a relatively new diver, 48 yrs old, with a group of 20 out of san antonio, tx - staying at CCV. her obit stated she died "while scuba diving" on 4/6. i have not heard anything more.

I must say that I am very surprised at the limited comment of this topic?

Sure not looking for some gruesome story, but I sure would like to know a little more since I frequent CCV and am headed there in 2 days!

Scuba Accident?
Unrelated?

Who was she diving with? A San Antonio group? I don't know of anyone who was running a trip the first week in April.

It was kept very quiet - not sure why. She was with a large group, but I don't know where they were from.
My understanding was that she had some health problems. She'd gotten ill - I believe it was on arrival evening - Saturday 4/3.
She was around after that...

I only heard that she was carried out of the water (don't know if it was shore or boat), and CPR was performed. A staff member verified, later in the week, that she'd passed away.

Condolences to her friends and family.

as stated earlier. she was w/a group of about 20 out of san antonio, texas - certified in march 2010. she was assisted out of the water from a shore dive and died shortly after. nothing else known about actual cause at this time, but may have had other health issues. there were several groups there that week. the one from san antonio was not a shop, it was a private group, led by an accomplished instructor.

I was part of the group that the women was in that week. The person was learning her open water certification and came to the shore complaining of not being able to breath and was assisted in by dive master and other group member. I was not there to witness the mishap but understand she had an earlier problem with not feeling good earlier in the week. We saw her bicycling and kayaking earlier in the day and looked healthy. The details were kept quiet by the mangement out of respect for her, her family, and members of our group. It was not related to the resort or her equipment. It is very a unfortunate accident. I did meet at breakfast and wish there was a different outcome.

BD-
Thanks for the update. Yes, she looked fine to me, too...
Condolences-
