Coast Guard helps diver suffering decompression sickness

A diver suffering from signs of decompression sickness was medevaced by the Coast Guard Sunday about 18 miles southeast of Hatteras Inlet.
The 52-year-old man was taken aboard a Coast Guard lifeboat to the Hatteras Coast Guard Station, where he was picked up by a helicopter crew from Elizabeth City. He was then flown to Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, a Coast Guard statement said.
The captain of the dive boat Under Pressure contacted the Coast Guard at about 3 p.m. to report the problem. The Coast Guard lifeboat arrived at about 4:30 p.m.
