Hi

ScubaBoard seems to be a amazing source of information.
I was planing on doing my dive guide and instructor training with Dive Mentor on Cozumel. But I don't seem to get a response from them and when I go to their location its a restaurant not a dive shop???

Anyone know anything about them? And who to contact?

Best Regards

Have not given anyone any money.
I want to meet who is in charge and see their dive shop before anyone gets any money from me.

Why do you ask? Is it a scam?

They don't have an actual address on the SSI site - it is just showing you the center of San Miguel de Cozumel, which is the big restaurant on the central square. Don't let that scare you off.

But I *would* be concerned by the lack of response.

I have no idea. But they haven’t responded to you and their address is a kebab shop...I’d be suspicious...

In a simple statement I can only say that it is best for you to get a contract with a reputable company that has at least a PADI Course Director to oversee, or conduct your training. I believe there are 3 or four on the island. Aldora Divers is one of them. BTW I no longer have any financial interest in Aldora Divers

Thanks Dave. I have message Aldora for more information.
And I appreciate that you mention that you no longer have financial interests in Aldora. Even if you or others did I see no problem getting advise from people that know the island. I will compare shops to see what fits me best.

Do you know what other diveshops on Cozumel have PADI Course Directors? Obviously I want to shop around and compare what they offer.

I do have a financial interest in Aldora in that I have given them thousands of dollars in exchange for my sanity and the safety of those around me. With the Covid shutdowns and having three trips canceled so far this year....my tolerance for people is greatly diminished. Divemastering classes and evidence recovery training in 1-3 foot visability in Oklahoma lakes is not helping my addiction for blue water and juvenile trunk fish...

That being said, I have dove with lots of shops around the Caribbean and several in Cozumel. If I were going for instructor training, they would be at the top of my list. In 6 years, we have never had a bad experience. They have the boats, the divemasters, and the clients to keep you busy. Little Jorge and Sharief are two of the best divemasters I have ever dove with anywhere and at any price. Generally we make it to Coz once or twice a year and somewhere else a couple of times. We keep going back to Aldora for a reason....they are the best shop for what we like.

Good luck with your search,
Jay

Runar,

With the so few dives you have done, I also recomend the best training vs the cheapest.

Most Dive Masters/Instructors at Aldora, Blue XTSea... have thousands and thousands of dives.

You can also see about instructor internship at one of these places. Though no pay per se, you will dive every day, learn the ropes vs a ( two week ??) Fast track.
