Hello,

I'm thinking about completing a divemaster course and want people's opinion. My main motivation is to improve my diving skills and log as many dives as possible in one of the best places in the world. I do not plan to make it a career. Because I've only dove in Indonesia (RJ, Bali, Komodo, Lembeh, Bunaken) Sipadan or Pulau Weh seem like comparable if not better.

I've spoken with a few dive centers in Sipadan about DM courses, billabong and junkies. I have not heard much about Billabong and have heard mixed reviews about junkies. Do you think that either of these would be good options?

Lastly, could I just show up and look around the dive shops and then sign up for a divemaster or do I need to plan ahead? Thanks.

If you like blue water, coral wall diving & sharks/turtles. Sipadan blows Bunakan & Tulemben away -- hands down! It's spectacular :D!

Don't know billibong but SJ has some exhausted DM's & DMT's. The shop is crazy busy (never saw anything like it) - but the DM had solid skills...

I'd say the diving is worth it :D. Just bring your own gear - (at a minimum your own reg) their gear is very sketchy! You can stay in their dorms for $3 per night & eat creatively for very inexpensive. Lots of DM's & DMT's so lots of community. Lembeh is a different kind of diving so not easy to compare.

Think you could just show up - but SJ may have competition for DMT slots - check ahead - Sipadan is popular for DMT's. There are a few other shops in town.

Just curious which place you likd best: RJ, Bali, Komodo, or Bunaken. If you have some good budget tips/details I'd love a PM :D! Heading out for 2.5 months in early June: Philippines, Pulau Weh, Lembeh, Komodo, Bali - Palau if it is affordable (still checking) :D:D

Have a good summer!
