Hello All,

I'm looking around at possible places to do my divemaster course starting in June for at least 8 weeks. I have been looking at the Perhentians. I would like to do it at a place where I can do an internship. So after I pass I still have the opportunity to work and take out the customers, I don't need to get paid. So I would like a place that is pretty busy and of course an overall good dive shop and instructors. I'm wondering if the big island or the small one would be better. And any suggestions about dive shops would be great. If anyone has had good or bad experiences with any of the dive shops over there please let me know. Also, if anyone can tell me about the overall feel on either of the islands I would appreciate it.

Oh yeah, and how is the diving there?

Thanks.
J.

Just a quick note to say that I'm in the Perhentians right now - conditions aren't awesome (vis is crappy; it's been raining and a bit windy), but I'm still having fun, and the sites obviously have tons of potential for when things clear up (the wrecks seem very cool). I'm doing AOW with Flora Bay Divers on the big island (Besut), and they seem like a great bunch of folks. From what I've seen, this is the one of the nicest stretches of beach - much nicer, IMO, than Long Beach, Coral Bay, or Gov't Beach in terms of overall vibe. However, it's fairly quiet here, so it you want lots of partying and such then Long Beach or Coral might be better? Just my opinion, and ya, with 18 dives under my belt, I'm pretty new.

Hey thanks for the info. Sorry it has taken so long to get back to you. So are you still there? Have the conditions gotten any better?
