Hi guy's
I know this question comes up a lot. Asia's a big place and there are many views on this!!
I'm planning on doing my divemaster in Jan/feb! I want to undertake this qualification somewhere where ill get a hands on approach i.e a busyish resort where i can follow instructors teach open water etc!! But i also want to learn where the Diving is good! I've dived Thailand, Malaysia, and some Phillipines but where can i learn with Big marine life?? I don't wanna poodle about with Anenomie and lion fish! Ok i hear you say things like Sipidan, Liang,Liang!! But im not rich i'm on a buget also. So good value for money where accommodation is concered must be consider'd??
Thanks lee.

Hi Lee,

Regardless of your destination, it is unlikely that much of a DM course would be conducted on sites that would attract large pelagic animals. OWs, DSD, scuba reviews etc (the staple work of instructors) tend to be conducted in shallow, sheltered locations. The critters you want to enjoy deep water and current.

p.s. you may get more response to this question if it were posted in the 'General Asia' or 'Going Pro' boards....

Cheers Andy! To true i suppose. Any suggestions on where to start looking. If i'm to undertake a divemaster intermship i want it where on any day the diving/marine life could be a little different. Somewhere to keep me excited where the divesites could be as diverse as possible?
How about subic bay!? I could help with a little training for ya!!?
Cheers

Have a look at Scuba Junkies, on Mabul (Sabah/Borneo/Malaysia). Doing your DM around Sipidan, Mabul and Kapalai would satisfy all your marine life urges. It doesn't get much better than that. There isn't much 'nightlife' though.

I'm not in Subic now.... but Subic Bay is all about shipwrecks. There's a few bullsharks and turtles around, but it's not the best critter destination in the region. :)
