Has anyone been there lately? If so, you would be kind enough to give me an update on ice conditions / conditions at point of entry etc.

Is the area around the ladder clear? Thanks for the info rcs scuba.

Thanks again for the info. With the nice week-end coming up I might consider the drive to get there worth it.

Thanks for your help rcs scuba. We just got back from a great dive on the Kinghorn. After breaking some of the ice around the ladder, we made our way to the wreck all the while spoiled with amazing vis. From within the holds of the wreck we could look up through an access way and easily see the ice on the surface (92 feet). I just wish I would have had a camera with me.

how far out is the surface frozen?
does it ever freeze all the way to the wreck?
if it does do you guys run a line all the way or use the ones in place?

is there a mooring date set yet?

man, too many questions but if you can answer them id be happy.

Presently it is frozen completely to the wreck.
There is a line from the South West corner of the Customs dock to the bow of the Kinghorn. In fact the line is 20 feet West of the bow, but I have never seen vis poor enough that when at the end of the line you glance to the left and there is the Kinghorn.
If new to this wreck and line please run a jump between end of line and the bow so you can find your way back to the line.

Not sure of the mooring date, I would guess it will be earlier than in the past.

You should be lining this gap any time you are on the wreck, especially under the ice. And don't assume that just because there's a gap spool in place when you get there, it will still be there when you leave. You don't gap it so you can find the wreck, you gap so you can find the way out in an emergency. Imagine if you had an OOA situation and had to bring your team out on the long hose. Precious minutes could be wasted looking for the mainline that may be needed at the other end. I installed and maintain the main line on this site and I still gap to the wreck on every dive, ice or not. This is an overhead dive folks, cave rules apply, there must be a continuous line leading back to open water. If you aren't trained for cave, stay off this site when it's under the ice.
