Can anyone recommend and good reliable wrist dive computer that affordable? Looking to spend $500 under, any suggestions? I was looking at the Scubapro Maridian, and the Subgear XP10:confused:

I'm guessing you're a new diver. It's smart to look for deals but knowing what I know now, you just don't want to cut corners on some things. Get the Shearwater Petrel and you'll be a happy man

Both the Meridian & XP 10 are good choices. The Meridian can be worn as a watch for very day use. The XP10 is an excellent all-around dive computer, but not a watch.

the oceanic veo & geo series aren't bad -- just make sure the one you get does nitrox -- suunto zoop isn't bad either... just to name a few.. the aeris/oceanic Mantis looks good and also works as a watch too

there are shops out there that sell stuff other than scubapro :) where in FL are you?

I'd try and find something with a bigger and brighter display. Both of those you are considering have tiny screens. Easy to read on the surface, but maybe not so easy in low light/low vis. Maybe someone (your LDS) has something that you can try before you take the plunge?

IMHO (and it is just my opinion, others have their own likes), I want a nice big screen to see the information at hand. The "wear as a watch" just doesn't cut it for me. Screens are too small. Plus, I see no purpose in wearing a dive computer while in the woods hunting, skiing, gardening, etc....

My wife uses a Mares Puck for recreational diving, and despite the lack of service, it fits her needs. There are others in this class, mentioned above.

Yes, the Peteral is amazing, but if you are new to diving, pass.... likely by the time you will have a use for one, there will be newer choices..

the OP stated had a price limit of $500 though....

for good viz i'd consider the new aeris a300 Oled --- nice viz on that...

definately look at the computers at various shops...

Where do you see your diving going? If you only ever want to do 'recreational' no-stop no-deco diving, something like the Suunto Zoop will be fine. For a bit more cash, the Suunto Vyper Air is similar in terms of operation but it supports gas switching on nitrox (for accelerated decompression) and can be used in Guage mode, meaning if you go down the tech route in future and dive to a plan, the Vyper Air can be used as a bottom timer.

Whatever you go for, pick something with nitrox capability.
