Afternoon everyone,
New forum member here. I came looking for help with the required migration from Dive Story to Dive Story Pro for the two Genesis Centauri my wife and I have.
They serve as backups to our Oceanic console computers and have been reliable up to this point. The cloud migration process described in the below linked video was followed to the letter. However, we've come to find out that the only data that migrates from the old app to the new is what is recorded by the computer itself. So none of the additional information my wife and I have entered gets migrated (tank start pressure, end pressure, weight used, visibility, air temperature, weather, wind, dive partner, location, etc.). And it especially doesn’t include the notes we took the time to write for the dives themselves.
A secondary problem with the new Dive Story Pro is that there appears to be no way to search the map for dive locations beyond panning and zooming on the map provided. And that is all but useless since when looking at the list of log entries, all you’re going to see is the decimal latitude and longitude of the location. You can fill in the Log Name value but it neither shows up on the detail of the log entry or on the list of logged dives. How am I going to recognize (and differentiate from any other dive) the location of 29.387877359628963, -82.48634364455938 when scrolling through all the log entries?
I've also realized that all log entries are stored exclusively in the cloud. Therefore if we're out of the country and don't want to pay international roaming charges or we're on a dive charter with no cell service, we have no way to reference information from a previous dive if necessary. The app's current state requires an internet connection for it to function in any meaningful capacity.
There’s also the problem that every time I open the app, the units are set to metric despite repeatedly changing them to imperial. Which wouldn’t be a problem except that the U.S. uses the imperial system and will for the foreseeable future. I’m sure there are other problems, but given we installed the app just a few hours ago, we haven’t had a chance to discover any additional issues.
Frankly, the app is all but completely useless and provides zero benefit to the end user. Are we the only ones experiencing the problem? Genesis Scuba / Sherwood Scuba / Diversco Supply can't honestly have created this much of a train wreck and expect to deprecate the previous version in less than a month.
